This month we are highlighting all the great things happening at the Healing with Hope Home at 200 Larch. More importantly, we are sharing some stories from our amazing team. Today you’ll learn a little bit about Sydnie, Indigenous Social Worker.
Q: What do you love most about your job?
“Coming to work in such a fun environment! The staff here are really like a family and it makes coming to work such a joy. The individuals are very welcoming, and they make me laugh, so I would have to say the environment!”
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
“I knit small animals and gift them to my co-workers and friends! I’ve amassed a collection of penguins, foxes, frogs, bears, jellyfish, octopuses and many more!”
Q: What is the most rewarding part working at the Healing with Hope Home?
“The most rewarding thing about working at Healing with Hope is the small wins we see. The small changes like an individual going to an appointment independently, or when an individual makes a smart choice for their recovery it reminds me of how far they have come! Seeing those changes is the most rewarding part of working here.”
Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to new staff? Or what is one piece of advice you received when you first started?
“One piece of advice I would give new staff would be to make sure you have a good work – life balance and actively practice your self-care. Our job requires us to be mentally on the ball all the time, and that is taxing to our mental health. Some days can be challenging and if you don’t deal with it and take care of yourself you can easily bring it home with you. So, I would definitely tell new staff to make sure they have a good self-care plan!”
