The Sudbury Wolves and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Sudbury/Manitoulin branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Sudbury Wolves home game.
The Sudbury Wolves game on Friday, February 17 at 7 pm will feature:
- A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health
- Videos featuring Sudbury Wolves players talking about the importance of mental health
- Public address announcements about mental health
- Chance to win a team autographed Sudbury Wolves hockey stick, by visiting the CMHA booth in the lower lobby
- Anti-stress pucks giveaway to fans upon exit of the game
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Sudbury Wolves and CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin to implement Talk Today. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout Ontario Hockey League communities.
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.
“One in five youth struggles with their mental health,” says Jeanne Messina, Mental Health Coach of CMHA Sudbury/Manitoulin. “This Talk Today event aims to combat stigma by starting a conversation around mental health and encouraging young people to seek help when they need it.”
“As an organization, we are pleased to be able to help bring light to this subject”, says Andrew Dale, VP Marketing and Development with the Sudbury Wolves. “We will continue to work hard to ensure that everyone feels supported when they are facing challenges.”
Tickets for the game are still available at the Sudbury Arena Box Office or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets. Get your tickets today to ensure your seat at the game.
